September 13th @ Local 121 | Dox and his obama loving DJ Skillz!

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Some words about this show courtesy of Dox:

PROS OF COMING TO SEE US OVER DIPLO
There is no cover
Our t-shirts don’t look like Z. Cavaricci fall line
The bartenders and waitresses are pretty fly @ 121
We play hip hop, not caricatures of it
We don’t cater to your coke-addled lifestyle

CONS OF COMING TO SEE US OVER DIPLO
The word “pussy” will not be shouted repeatedly over 140-bpm 808 kicks
Words like “MGMT” and “Uffie” sound really foreign to us.
We don’t cater to your coke-addled lifestyle

My Hip Hop Weekend

Two Shows In Two Nights. Monkey Business at the AS220. Special Teamz at The Living Room. Mortal comes out of hiding.

1.19.08 - Special Teamz @ The Living Room - Rhode Island

Rhode Island hip hop was in full effect this past weekend. I attended two shows. While attending hip hop shows seems like a natural activity for a self proclaimed hip hop fan, the fact that I have not been “out” in over six months makes this a monumental occasion … at least for me.

This write up won’t be so much a full blown review of each event. It will be more of a bunch of mini reviews peppered with scathing criticism, bordering on slander, of the Rhode Island Hip Hop scene as a whole. So sit back. Relax. Grab a tall, ice cold glass of grape Hater-Aid and enjoy.
