A Night in Review: Eyedea & Abilities

Eyedea & Abilities

Since headlining acts at The Living Room usually don’t grace the stage until past midnight, I decided it was a good idea to watch all of game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals before I went to see Eyedea & Abilities perform. Although I am glad to have watched the Celtics win, I was definitely wrong in my assumption about The Living Room. I arrived around 11:45, and, much to my disappointment, the headlining set was already more than half over

Regardless of how much I saw on Friday night, I already knew Eyedea & Abilities are some of the best live performers in hip-hop after seeing them at The Living Room in 2004. Rarely can I say a hip-hop act is better live rather than on record, but in the case of E&A, I believe it may be true. The little I did see on Friday was equally as amazing as the full set I saw a few years back. Eyedea has an incredible presence on the microphone and Abilities handles the tables like only a few others can.

Towards the closing of the show, Eyedea spent some time talking to the crowd about a new album the two are working on that they plan to release sometime next spring. Hopefully E&A will factor in the crowd support over the crowd size when scheduling their next tour dates. Friday’s RI crowd was far from large; however, the majority of fans in attendance were extremely supportive, as most of them bought merchandise and pleaded with E&A to come back at a later date.

If you have not heard of Eyedea & Abilities, do yourself a favor and research them a little. This way, if they come around next year, I will not have to tell you again how you missed one of the best live performances hip-hop has to offer.

I gotta be honest…Obviously Eyedea is cool and all. But I’ve seen him live, and he dropped intoa freestyle that lasted about 10 minutes. He put the crowd to sleep after minute one. I didn’t feel he was a good entertainer at all; but again…it’s just my opinion

  10. haters everywhere.
    eyedea is the man
    best content hands down.
oh and pete math is all pre written
    so thats just bullshit.

Hw, got nothing but respect for everything you say, but I’m not tryin to hate, and the LAST thing I want to do is agree with Pete, but we all have our tastes.
I just don’t care for Eyedea that’s all. I actually had the Slug and Eyedea CD, heard it once/ never put it in again. I also didn’t think his live show was all that great. Nothing to do with hatin, just differences in taste.
I appreciate what Eyedea does, just don’t care for him myself. I’m not huge into any of that squad really, with the exception of Brother Ali–dude’s flows with heart.

  12. what is ying w/o yang
    what is love w/o hate
    what is good w/o evil

it’s just humans making choices about where they stand
    …it’s all monkey business

  13. but also, our choices do have consequences

    and consequently
    aligning urself with this cornball
    is llllllllllame.

  14. then i guess this site is in trouble ;)

  15. we’re all in trouble
    that’s what makes it fun!

I wish E&A had the stage presence of Sneaky Pete. That dude can handle a crowd like no one else. Especially when HE FORGETS THE LINES TO HIS “FREESTYLE”….clown, pipe up. You should stop hating on here until you sell units and stop wearing suit jackets with jeans.

  17. Did i say it was a freestyle?

The other emcee in the battle isnt supposed to interrupt either

but it is what it is
