Can i hit this post with real talk? i Have done gtc shows, i have done delusional shows , among others promted on the site with challz,etc . i know i can be honest when i say the show i did last night for delusional the crowd support just wasnt there.. partly my fualt i only brought like 5 people but honestly all the gtc shows i have done the people come out.. they got local acts where people wanna go for whatever reason.. the first one that wasnt on mothers day the peoplke did not leave the stage the whole time. and for a ” local artist show” it was dope.. i know i am a rookie on the scene .. big ups to mortal for puttin this together to get the artist opinions. and i understand what my dewd mystik is sayin but on the other hand mortal runs it.. so it is what it is…

As far as i’m concerned Def Jux is maybe the whackest label out (With the exception of C-Rayz). I mean I love Mr. Lif, but Jux changed him for the worse in my opinion. It’s run by El-P who can’t flow and who’s beats are way too abstract for anyone to nod their heads to. A further example…who’s heard the new Del album??? As soon as I heard it was comin out on Def Jux I knew it would blow donkey balls. (I told evryone that shit) Lo and behold!! Whos’ heard it? It is by far the biggest piece of doggie dung Del’s ever put out. It’s almost unlistenable until some of the last tracks.
Bottom line: Cats hop on Def Jux and immediately get “artsy”.
Def Jux only “blew the hinges” off ‘alternative rap’. You know…the college rap crowd that doesn’t know their asses from their elbows. Like the crowd Pete’s 15 fans belong to. (Lif’s still gets my respect for the record, just wish he made better choices)

Come to think of it, it was RAWKUS that “blew the hinges” for Indylabels in oh say 1997. I haven’t checked my facts, but I’m pretty sure Jux didn’t exist when El-P was ON Rawkus compilations. Rawkus blew open the doors for Mos Def, Talib, Thirstin, Shabam Shadiq, Pharoah Monche (Organized Confusion excluded), and many other DOPE east coast MCs. Even Company Flow, Dilated People, Tash, and Eminem were makin appearances on Rawkus BEFORE they ever blew. So which label REALLY blew the hinges for Indies?

immortal technique taught me you don’t need a RECORD DEAL to make music - just like you don’t need a book deal to write poetry or a commission to paint. it’s obvious you’ve lost your way, pete - shame on you for actually posting this drivel online for everyone to see. i started making music to express myself and i honestly didn’t care whether people heard it or not - my friends had to force the songs out of me at first. but over time i’ve seen the exact corruption that’s taken over you slowly creep into me - worrying about the business end of things over the important part - the MUSIC. so fuck it, i’ll do music out of my basement and give away my ‘wack-ass mixtapes’ for the rest of my life with NO DEAL - giving away music is the most hip-hop shit you can do. last time i checked, there was no cover charge for those ‘78 block parties.

Jots man, I get the same shit about wasting my time on here. But I’ve realized, first of all it’s amusing, and sure it gets me angry hearin the stupidity from some people, but I also find myself laughing half the time which is good for the lungs. Also, it is an outlet to connect with “Real” heads. And by that I’m not saying established veterans, but just those cats tryin to make something happen.
Pete: You don’t have to like what Marshall raps about, but you DO need to recognize skills. If you’re tryin to hate on Marsh for his subject matter, you’re hatin on 95% of rap vets. I mean isn’t G Rap a “thug” rapper. Rugged Man? Vinnie Paz? Slaine? Ill Bill? Bottom line: We all have our own tastes, so to each his own. I find it funny that i am about to defend Sneaky, seeing as tho I’m not 100% sure if I even like the dude … but to respond to what has Sneaky done for hip Hip … He has put on a few shows in the past year … one of which i totally tore apart in a review. But putting on shows and helping to put on shows (like he has done with Challz) is a huge part of helping out the Hip Hop scene. Giving other artists opportunity to shine is a great thing. I personally know how hard it is to put on shows. Its a thankless job, yet its vital to have growth in our community.
Also I remember back in the day at one of My events … Sneaky gave me his single on Vinyl (that just sounds better than “Sneaky gave me his 12 inch …. pause). And this was at a time when putting out vinyl was very uncommon for a local artist. It had artwork and everything it wasn’t just a white label.
Sneaky has actual manufactured material with artwork and barcodes. That is very important. How many emcees in the current scene have that? Labeless. PDP. Delusional. It’s what sets apart the hard working artists from the myspace emcees. The next step is distribution … which only Sage and Time Machine have as far as I know. But anyway. Your not feeling Sneaky. Thats cool. Not many people do to be honest. But he does hustle.

Major Labels loved the show and concept
but didn’t hear a “Radio Smash”
We went back to the drawing board
to try to create what they wanted but
we all had different ideas of how to do it

word..and i never doubted any of that. thats why i didnt knock anything he does except the blogging bout every guy that in his eyes is below him. The funny thing is, nobody knocked sneaky’s hustle, so why should he knock anyone elses. My offer to work with him is on the table and was on the table ever since the c-rayz show. did he try to follow up on it and build with people, not us why i duno, but it is what it is. whatever.. before my phone was dissconnected i tried calling mortal to even try to get some stuff poppin and i dont get an answer or a call back, no harm, people are busy. but sneaky aint the only one hustling. art work is finished and cd are in the process of being packaged (with a barcode)besides everone knows that a barcode is only a matter of about 39 bucks with an order of about 1000 cds. i am on the same page with you, always have been.But yet i dont feel the need to tell people they are wrong or what hip hop needs nowa days, i think the problem is, everyone thinking they know whats best for the culture instead of just doing their thing and collabing with the people that are trying to reach out and build with people to keep it going. so with that all said, i’m going to try this again, some of my team might not like this but, my offer is still on the table, for pete and anyone else who wants to build…get at me on myspace or e-mail tony_backwards@yahoo.com …PEACE!
